Social media is officially a big deal. 😯 There’s no denying that. It’s used for personal and business purposes and it’s becoming more important than ever. If your business isn’t on some form of social media platform, you’re missing out on a fast, effective and FREE way to reach potential customers. Whether you hate it or love it, it’s where everyone is, so your business should be too.

The Numbers Don’t Lie

On average, there are 3.397 billion active social media users in the world. And according to Newswire, Canadians check their phones 6 times in an hour. That’s a lot of people you can potentially reach with a simple post about your business. And these social consumers are not just interacting with their friends and family. Simple research shows that:

  • 53% of Facebook users interact with a brand
  • 40% liked a product on Facebook
  • 42% wrote an online post about a product or a brand

It’s also important to stay on top of your social media game and to not let your accounts die off. Keep reminding people that you still exist. As long as you’re posting regularly, people will continue to see your content and possibly refer your company to family and friends.

Show Off Your Personality

If anything, social media can showcase and humanize your business. Show off your personality a bit by sharing the day-to-day culture of your business and stories about your staff.

People want to know what happens at your office so the next time you have a meeting, someone has a birthday or a special guest visits you, snap a picture and post it.

You should also encourage your staff members to like your page and engage with your posts. If just one of them comments or likes a post, it will reach all of their friends.

People may have never heard of your business before and social media is a great way to remind potential customers that you exist. According to a recent survey by Brandwatch, 91% of retail brands use 2 or more social media channels.

As everyone scrolls through their social media feeds, they might see a friend liked one of your posts or maybe one of your ads appeared. This gives people the opportunity to click on your profile and like/follow you to see future posts from you.

This is an awesome way to inform people of the kind of services/products/events you may have. Do a short video explaining a concept or we suggest taking a picture and writing a few short sentences about the benefits of your product.

*Pro Tip: Be careful about the amount of sales-related posts you do. You don’t want to run the risk of bombarding your followers with too many of these posts as they will likely unfollow. It’s a fine line, but you just have to play around and find out what works best for your business.

Websites & Social

You should always treat your social media accounts like a mini website. Have all of your info up to date (hours, website link, address, etc), and have a branded profile and cover photo.

Speaking of websites, social media is a great way to increase traffic going to your website. When making a social post (specifically on Facebook or Twitter), try including a link to your website for your followers to find more info. If you have a blog, this is a great opportunity to get more eyes on it!
