Since Instagram and Facebook became one – aka Meta – the changes can be overwhelming, and we’re here to help you understand some of those changes. It’s easier than it looks and we’re here to help.
Meta Business Suite
With the new brand of Meta comes the intertwining of social media profiles. This is good and bad news. Good news: you can easily view insights, plan your posts, post to both platforms, and communicate with your followers no matter where you prefer to be (Facebook or Instagram, that is). It’s all in one easy place: Meta Business Suite.
The bad news: it’s a mess if it’s not connected properly. Let’s get to it.
Instagram and Facebook Connection
Now, this is where things get kind of tricky. Facebook has unveiled a “New Pages Experience,” which completely overhauls the look and feel of your business profile and moved around all the features you’re used to seeing.
Classic Pages
- Go to your business page on Facebook (a desktop is easier for this).
- Scroll to the bottom and select Settings on the left-hand side.
- Scroll down to find Instagram. Click!
- Here you’ll find whether or not your Instagram and Facebook profiles are connected.
✅ If they are, great! You’ll see an option to “Disconnect account,” but it’s best you leave it as is unless it is connected to the wrong account.⚠️ If your profiles are not connected, please connect them. This may appear as a “Review connection” button to confirm the connection. Click and log into your Instagram account.
IMPORTANT: If your page is owned by a Facebook Business Manager and not an individual person, you must be an Admin on that Business Manager to complete this task. You may send a request if you do not have access.

New Pages Experience
- Go to your business page on Facebook (a desktop is easier for this).
- Ensure you are acting as the page (it will prompt you if you’re not).
- Select Meta Business Suite on the left-hand menu.
- Select All tools on the left-hand menu.
- Select Page settings on the right-hand side under “Manage”.
- Find Linked Accounts and click. You should see Instagram here!
✅ If they are, great! You’ll see an option to “Disconnect account,” but it’s best you leave it as is unless it is connected to the wrong account.

Business Manager
If you have a Business Manager account attached to your page, it likely has ownership of your page. This means that if an agency, like Harvard Media, requests access to promote ads or post social content on your behalf, it will go to the Business Manager, not to the Page Admin.
Ensure you have ownership of your page in a Business Manager that you have access to, or that multiple people have access to it in case someone leaves your business with that information. We can tell you from experience that it’s a good idea to ensure multiple people are Admins. You can also make it part of your offboarding process when someone leaves the company to ensure that they no longer have access to the page, Business Manager, and other social accounts and passwords.

Who Owns Your Business Page?
If you’re on the New Pages Experience, it’s easy to check.
Select “New Pages Experience” or “Page Access” (Facebook has been inconsistent with its new menu options). Here you will be able to see who owns the page. If it is a Business Manager, make sure it’s accurate. If the wrong Business Manager owns your page, it could be difficult to change it, and you may need to file an Admin Dispute with Meta Support.
Business Manager Requests
Accepting Business Manager Requests From An Agency
Note, you must be an Admin in the Business Manager account to complete this task.
- Go to your Business Manager.
- Go to Business Settings by clicking the gear on the bottom of the page or the three lines at the top right of the menu.
- On the left-hand side of the screen, you’ll have to scroll down to find Requests. This is where all the requests will be.
